Cascade SIGGRAPH Steering Committee Meeting Summary by Herc Silverstein Comments/Corrections: herc@schrodinger.com Location: Doubletree, Downtown Portland Date: Thu, Nov 7, 2002 1-2:15 Attendees: Karen Habblitz Andy Larkin Herc Silverstein Michael Smith Connie Winn Adam Inman E-Theater Review ---------------- Held at PWFTC near OMSI Around 70 people attended Cost was $150 for the auditorium. However, Michael had to make a number of trips to make sure their equipment would work with the DVD, but their equipment didn't. We're hoping that they will give us a discount because of the difficulty. The facility cannot handle audio from a DVD player Red and blue tickets were used. One color was for members who had signed up, the other for people just attending. The idea was to give preference to members. But we feel this didn't work well and in the future we should just use one color ticket and give equal preference. Next year we should have a VIP party and hold it afterwards. This would give people something to talk about. If you are a member it'd be free. Otherwise, you have to pay for it. We should have a committee to do the ETheater in the future. If we do a raffle, get dontations for prizes. Also, get double tickets so that 1/2 can be used for the raffle. Michael will get copies of all the paperwork and get them to Herc. Herc will store them. In general all papers/documents should be archived. Once Herc gets copies of all the membership paperwork he'll put them into an Excel spreadsheet. Volunteers ---------- For those who signed up they need to be contacted asap. Consider changing membership form to make the volunteer section more prominent. Or possibly make it a separate form. Next General Meeting -------------------- This is the mixer at Cassidy's in SW Portland No responses so far. Unclear whether people just aren't responding but will show up. People are encouraged to bring art Should we do some silly activities to promote interaction and fun (like pin the tail on the business card)? Connie and Andy will check out the facilities. They'll also find out what we can really bring into the space (the restaurant may or may not allow certain things - like computers. If it is allowed, Michael wants to bring a display and a computer to show animations. Also, might show 3D Workspace preview for the January meeting. Discussed various door prize ideas. One idea was to see if we can get a DVD of the e-theater and make that a door prize. Michael to work on that. Try to contact companies, organizations to see if they would donate things (tickets, merchandise, etc.). Herc to contact PAM. Others to contact whoever they know. publicity: place in calendar section of papers contact other orgs. Use strategic planning list to start WW costs $620 for about 3" x 3" Miscellaneous ------------- Michael to contact Adam about becoming treasurer. Alex will try to find an additional person for the March meeting. The person will talk about compositing. Andy will try to see if we could hold the March meeting at a TV studio, (e.g. Fox 2 News). We need to come up with a different meeting time, since Nance can't make Thursdays. Michael will choose 3 or 4 times and request that people respond back as to their availability. We will serve pizza and drink at the Jan meeting and charge $5 for non-members. Jan meeting is the Intel 3D Workspace meeting. Location will NOT be at Intel and is tbd. What are we doing for Feb (anything?)? **Strategic Meeting Part III** is Fri, Nov 15, 5pm at AII. Logo ---- Few local chapters have one We like the idea, but it has lower priority compared to other things - NEXT COMMITTEE MEETINGS Dec 12 Thu 1pm Jan ? Feb ?
