Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH Elections

June 29, 2006

Join us for our last meeting of the season!

Learn more about 3d modeling and sound applications. Experts from Second Story
will give a presentation on the "Media Wall" at the McCormick Tribune Freedom
Museum in Chicago and a 3d model of the Lagoda, a New Bedford Whaling Museum.
Second Story's computer graphics applications will intrigue and inspire you.

Next, experts from Mythod will present "Sound Off!" a brief history, theory and practical
implications of digital animation and sound. Mythod's application will demonstrate
how they creatively put sound with movement and how musicians collaborate with
animators to produce animated films.

How to Get A Job In Computer Graphics

This is your opportunity to find out what you need to do to get a job in the computer graphics field: animation, gaming, modeling, web and print design. Industry experts will give their perspective and unique insights on what employers look for in resumes and demo reels. Highlights of the informative evening include: brief talks by an animation recruiter on resumes, a technical director on demo reels, and career counselors; a panel discussion comparing and contrasting different perspectives and an opportunity to ask your questions about getting a job in the industry.

A Night with LAIKA Entertainment
The Making of Moongirl

Join us for a special presentation by Laika Entertainment on the making of their Annie-nominated short film Moongirl.

There will be a short screening of Moongirl and discussions with award-winning Technical Directors, Animators, and director Henry Sellick (Moongirl, Nightmare Before Christmas). Laika staff will share their insights about the computer graphics used in Moongirl and be on hand to answer questions about the film, animation in the Portland area, and Laika.

The energy and excitement of the annual SIGGRAPH conference, held in Los Angeles this past summer, will be brought directly to Portland by screening the SIGGRAPH 2005 Electronic Theater. For the first time in Portland, the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater will be shown in its entirety.

 

About SIGGRAPH’s Electronic Theater

 

Each year, the annual SIGGRAPH conference includes one internationally recognized showcase of the best computer graphics achievements from around the world. The Electronic Theater contains a selection of 18 juried works from hundreds of submissions. The pieces were selected based on extremely high standards of creative and technical excellence.

 

The Electronic Theater is the world's most prestigious film and video extravaganza, showcasing dazzling and innovative imagery in invited and submitted works selected by a distinguished jury of computer graphics experts and specialists. Location and Registration

 

The Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH December meeting will take place Monday, Dec. 5, 2005 at 6:30 PM at the Hollywood Theater, located at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd, in the Hollywood District, Portland. Networking in the lobby will begin at 6:30 and the Screening will be from 7:00 to 8:40 PM. This and other SIGGRAPH meetings are free to Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH members, with a $5.00 fee at the door for non-members. Annual membership can be purchased at the door for $25.00 ($18.00 for students). Concession food is available for purchase.
