Cascade SIGGRAPH Presents

Applications Night
Including presentations about modeling applications, putting sound with graphics and the annual Cascade SIGGRAPH elections

Experts from Second Story and will give a presentation on the "Media Wall" at the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum in Chicago and a 3d model of the Lagoda, a New Bedford Whaling Museum. Second Story's computer graphics applications will intrigue and inspire you. Also, experts from Mythod will present "Sound Off!" a brief history, theory and practical implications of digital animation and sound. Mythod's application will demonstrate how they creatively put sound with movement and how musicians collaborate with animators to produce animated films.

About The Applications
The McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum is the nation's first museum dedicated to helping people understand freedoms with a focus on those guaranteed by the First Amendment. The museum houses over 25 highly interactive exhibits throughout the 10,000 square feet of exhibit space in Chicago's Tribune Tower. From a 30-foot long video wall to kiosks and installations in many diverse sizes and configurations, these unique media installations engage visitors and groups to make choices, express their opinions, explore their own limits and compare views in compelling ways. Whether listening to banned music, learning about kids using T-shirts to protest at school or reading about freedom in other countries, visitors can explore freedom in a relevant and unbiased context that allows them to reach their own conclusions.

The Lagoda, at the New Bedford Whaling Museum is an installation that allows users to explore the deck and hold of a virtual whaling ship. Through the interface, the story of whaling and the people, tools and culture of the whaling industry are revealed. The centerpiece of the kiosk is an accurate 3d model of the whaling bark Lagoda, originally built in 1826.

Sound Off! the history, practice and theory of making music with animation and movement will show the practicality of working with bands, doing soundtracks and considering how actors interact with choreographers to create motions and gestures that apply to animation. In addition to history and practice, the presentation will examine how modern dance may help animators with gesture and rhythm. There  will even be an exploration of theoretical research into color-sound frequency relationships.
