Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH
Elections June 2006
Candidate Biographies
Chair
Jeff Borg
I spent the past year as Chair of this chapter during which
membership, events and
awareness of Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH have greatly increased. I am currently Chair
of the Multimedia and Gaming department at ITT Technical
Institute, also. If elected,
my goals are as follows:
* Continue relevant, monthly events, striving for "higher
profile" events which may involve
companies such as Pixar/Disney/Dreamworks/ILM, etc.
* Greater involvement of Colleges/Universities and local, relevant
companies
* Find a way to bring SIGGRAPH'S annual conference to Portland in
the future.
* Bring back the Creative Conference or something similar to
Portland.
If elected, I will strive to further the effect of Cascade ACM
SIGGRAPH to the Graphic
Arts/CG community here in Portland.
Vice Chair
Demetra Gilmore Arnett
Demetra's foundational work in fine art began her path as a computer
graphic designer, art
director, project leader, print buyer, consultant and instructor.
She holds a bachelor's degree
in Mathematics and a master's Degree in Information Management
from the University of
Oregon. Her thesis on findability in virtual museum websites
addressed wayfinding and she
is passionate about information architecture, usability and
instructional design. She is
currently working as a Lean Six Sigma green belt for a non-profit organization,
is a multimedia
instructor and serves the computer graphics community as the Vice
Chair of Cascade ACM
SIGGRAPH, coordinating events that raise consciousness.
Secretary
Fran Zandonella
Actively involved in SIGGRAPH since 1993, Fran Zandonella has
served in a variety of
leadership positions including Secretary, Treasurer, and Chair for
local professional
SIGGRAPH chapters. This
past year, she has co-produced meetings about local
animation studio Laika, and “How to Get a Job in Computer
Graphics.” In addition to
taking minutes at Board meetings, she vigorously updates our web
pages, and
manages the membership process.
Her goals for this coming year include bringing Portland speakers
on cutting edge
computer graphics topics, streamlining the membership renewal
process, and keeping the
Portland area up to date on our vibrant activities.
Treasurer
Andrew Dennis
I have been the treasurer for Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH for three
years. I enjoy handling
the financial affairsof the organization and hope do the same for
2006-7. My graphics
background includes a Master of Computer Science and a dozen years
working in the
Film/Video, Video Game, and Web Development. My focus for Cascade ACM
SIGGRAPH is to manage the financial matters and help build the
Computer Graphics
community in the region.
Board Members At Large (8 positions
available)
Michael Smith
I have spent 21 years developing 2D & 3D graphical user
interfaces in software. Due to my
enthusiasm for computer graphics, I and a few others helped found
the Cascade ACM
SIGGRAPH. I continue to participate
in the programming committee and had recently
helped create the "Bring Your Own Art" night for Cascade
ACM SIGGRAPH.
If elected, I will promote the following for the chapter:
* Start looking into
getting the International SIGGRAPH Traveling Art Show
into Portland
* Get a volunteer
coordinator
* Form stronger
relationships with other similar organizations
* Make the "Bring
Your Own Art" night an annual event
Hercules Silverstein
I am one of the founding members of the Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH
Chapter. I originally
served as Secretary and later as Vice Chair. Currently I have been serving as a Member
at Large.
My interest in helping form and participating in the chapter grew
out of my interest, personal
and professional, in graphics.
I've been creating user interfaces and visualization tools for
molecular modeling and drug design for over a decade now.
I feel the chapter serves the important roles of building
relationships between others
(individuals, companies) who have an interest in computer
graphics, growing and
strengthening this community, and educating the public as well as
ourselves. I would like
to be re-elected so I can continue working on this as a Member at
Large.
